About us
Elena and Giorgio, and a house over a century old
Corte Ortensia was the home of Giorgio’s grandmother. Today it is ours, and for a few nights it can be yours too.
The little palazzo was built in 1887 by a master stonemason, Giorgio’s great-grandfather, who had his workshop on the ground floor and his family upstairs. The courtyard held the well, the hens and a hydrangea that grandmother Ada looked after like one of her children.
When the house stood empty in 2015, instead of selling it we decided to restore it. It took three years: we saved the chestnut beams, the hexagonal terracotta tiles and the original shutters, and created six rooms, each with its own character.
Elena, a pastry chef for twenty years, looks after breakfast and the rooms. Giorgio, a former art history teacher, welcomes guests and tells the story of Rome to anyone with ten minutes to spare. Our cat, Tiberio, makes sure everything is in order.
We look forward to welcoming you. Elena and Giorgio
What we believe in
- 01
Real hospitality
We welcome you ourselves, in person. We give you our number and we answer in the evening too.
- 02
Home-made
Cakes, jams, biscuits: Elena makes them every morning with ingredients from Lazio.
- 03
Respect for the neighbourhood
Few guests, no parties, and neighbours who wave from their balconies. Monti is a living neighbourhood and we want it to stay that way.
- 04
Less waste
No plastic bottles or single-use toiletries: water in carafes, natural toiletries in dispensers, energy from renewable sources.
Come and stay
Six rooms, a breakfast made by hand and two hosts happy to share their Rome with you.
